Portrait of a Woman, Mixed Media Folk Art Painting...

As I continue studying art history, I will be painting as I go and posting the inspiration piece if possible. My purpose is not to copy the paintings from the great masters, but to learn from their technique, history, and passion. I will be adding my own touches, and changing elements in my interpretation as a mixed media Folk Art piece. My newest painting "Portrait of a Woman, with Bird", was inspired by "Head of a Mulatto Woman" by Joanna Mary (Boyce) Wells, 1861,shown below. My version includes the use of artist papers to make the many layers of the dress. It is available on Ebay now. You can see my current paintings for sale by clicking**HERE**.

Take care!

i like the way you are studying the old masters and learning from their art, to enrich your own art making processes. i love the way you interpret the old paintings, you are on an exciting learning adventure - its getting me thinking about following a similar learning path.

Thank you Clare! I've wanted to do this for quite some time, and I'm loving the study and process. I looked at your artwork, and it is amazing! I can only imagine what your interpretation would be...let me know if you decide to incorporate art history into your paintings, I would love to see it!
